The Labour Force Survey (LFS) is a monthly survey by Statistics Canada. It divides the working age population into one of three groups:
- people who have jobs (employed),
- people who are looking for jobs (unemployed), and
- people who are not working and not looking for work (not in the labour force).
The survey helps us understand how the job market is changing. For example: employment and unemployment changes in industries and occupations, how many hours people are working, and how many people are working or looking for work.
